El espejo y el manto: La construcción de un lugar para el acontecimiento en el centro histórico de Quito

Abstract

Construir un pensamiento arquitectónico por medio de la propia historia de la arquitectura, manifestar un proyecto que intente ser crítico, sin olvidar el carácter propio de la disciplina, el de componer un objeto arquitectónico; que sea hija del placer y de la necesidad, placer denodado de poder crear algo, necesidad de transcender su condición utilitaria, con el duro deseo de_ durar, de resistir el tiempo, que busque la verdad, y que reclame la belleza, aunque estas le sean indiferente. Teniendo en cuenta estas ideas se imaginó una arquitectura que tenga la doble cualidad de ser manto y espejo; espejo en tanto permite manifestar las condiciones de su origen, de su tiempo, de su lugar de ser ahí , pefo que además refleje en su estructura las intenciones de su autor; que no son más que las intenciones de todos los hombres que han dejado plagada la historia de sus bellas reflexiones, dotando al objeto de un germen común, y que la arquitectura en su cualidad de manto construya el acontecimiento, que se convierta en escenario de las vicisitudes del hombre, que sea experiencia, que se vuelva cotidiana, que se convierta en memoria, que construya un lugar por medio de sus límites, de sus volúmenes, de la luz y la geometría, y que pueda ser una ofrenda a este bello arte, esperando que logre formar parte de ella

-To construct an architectural thought through the own history ofthe architecture, to manifest a project that tries to be critica!, without forgetting the own character ofthe discipline, the one to compasean architectural object; that it is the daughter of pleasure and necessity, the unreserved pleasure of being able to create something, the need to transcend its utilitarian condition, with the hard desire to last, to resist time, to seek the truth, and to claim beauty, even though it is be indifferent. Taking into account these ideas it is imagined an architecture that has the double quality of being mantle and mirror; mirror in so much it allows to manifest the conditions of its origin, of its time, of its place of being there, but that in addition it reflects in its structure the intentions of its author; that they are nothing mor~nhan the intentions of ali the men who have left the history of their beautiful ref1ections plagued, endowing the object with a common germ, and that the architecture in its mantle quality constructs the event, that becomes the scene ofthe vicissitudes ofman, that is experience, that becomes daily, that becomes memory, that builds a place by means of its limits, of its volumes, of light and geometry, and that it can be an offering to this beautiful art, hoping that it will become part of it.
